How we protect your recipes

Stored in a managed cloud database

Your recipes live in a managed PostgreSQL database, not on a single machine we look after by hand. The database keeps a continuous history of changes, so it can be restored to an earlier point in time if something goes wrong.

Updates without downtime

We start each new version of our server next to the one that is running. Traffic moves over only after the new version passes its health check, so the service keeps running during every update.

A one-step rollback

After each release, the previous version stays ready. If a release has a problem, we switch back to it in seconds.

Database changes go first

Changes to the database run before a new version starts. If a change fails, the release stops and the version that is running is not touched.

In your account, not only on your phone

Your collection is stored in your account and syncs to iPhone, Android and the web. If you lose or replace your phone, sign in and your recipes are there.

Encrypted in transit

Every connection between the Recipe Notes apps and our servers uses HTTPS.

Your recipes stay yours

You can export your whole collection from the Recipe Notes app on iPhone, Android or the web. You get a ZIP file of Markdown and JSON files that other apps and text editors can open. Recipes you import keep a link back to the page they came from.

Real reviews from the App Store, shortened where you see “…”. Recipe Notes is rated 4.7 out of 5 on the App Store. Read all reviews on the App Store.

Finally!

I’ve been using it for a couple of months now - enough time to add a handful of loved recipes, and feel confident enough to invest the time in consolidating all the scraps of written recipes and URL links into it.

No more searching for recipes!

I used to have recipes in my phone, on index cards in a box, more index cards in a binder. Plus cookbooks. I’ve been adding my go-to recipes in Recipe Notes and it makes it so easy.

The Best!

Of all the apps I’ve ever downloaded this has to be the most practical and the most used app. … At least five of my friends now also use this app and we all love it.

Frequently asked questions

How do you know the service ran every day?

We count how many recipes people saved on each day. If people could save recipes on a day, the service was working that day. Since June 2025 there has not been a single day without saved recipes. This shows that the service ran every day. It does not measure every minute of the day.

Is the status on this page live?

Yes. Each time this page loads, our server checks the services and the page shows the result. The daily record and the totals update every day.

Where are my recipes stored?

In a managed PostgreSQL database in the cloud, linked to your Recipe Notes account. That is why your recipes are the same on iPhone, Android and the web.

Can I export my recipes?

Yes. In the Recipe Notes app on iPhone, Android or the web, go to Settings, then Export Recipes. You get a ZIP file with your whole collection as Markdown and JSON files. You can also export a single recipe as a PDF or Markdown file.

Do updates interrupt the service?

No. Updates to our servers start next to the running version and take over only when they are healthy. App updates come through the App Store and Google Play, and your recipes stay in your account.
