Mulled Red Wine

A warm, aromatic winter drink made with red wine, kirsch, and fragrant spices including cloves, cinnamon, vanilla, and citrus zest. Perfect for holiday entertaining.

Ingredients

  • •8 whole whole cloves
  • •4 whole whole black peppercorns
  • •4 strips fresh lemon zest
  • •4 strips fresh orange zest
  • •4 cups dry red wine
  • •½ cup kirsch
  • •1½ cups water
  • •¾ cup sugar
  • •1 stick cinnamon stick
  • •1 bean vanilla bean
  • •1 stick cinnamon sticks
  • •1 piece cheesecloth

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1.

    Put cloves, peppercorns, and zest on cheesecloth, then tie closed to form a bag.

    Combine wine, kirsch, water, sugar, cinnamon stick, vanilla bean, and cheesecloth bag in a 4-quart saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring.

    Simmer 10 minutes. Serve warm.
