Plum Wine

A homemade fruit wine made by infusing small red plums with vodka and sugar. This traditional infusion develops rich, complex flavors of caramel and raisins with floral notes over several months.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds small red plums (the smaller, the better)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 750 ml vodka

Cooking Instructions

    Combine 2 pounds small red plums (the smaller, the better) and 2 cups sugar in a large jar or crock and add one 750 ml bottle vodka or other clear flavorless spirit. Stir to dissolve sugar and tightly cover. Store in a cool, dark place at least 3 months before using. Plum wine should taste floral and almost Sherry-like, with notes of caramel and raisins.
