Real Gingerbread
A moist and flavorful traditional gingerbread cake made with fresh ginger, molasses, and warm spices. This recipe creates a perfectly spiced cake with a rich dark color and tender crumb.
Ingredients

- •1 teaspoon baking soda
- •1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- •¼ teaspoon ground allspice
- •½ teaspoon salt
- •½ cup unsalted butter
- •⅔ cup molasses
- •⅔ cup dark brown sugar
- •2 whole large eggs
- •3 tablespoons fresh ginger
- •⅔ cup hot water

Put oven rack in middle position and preheat oven to 350°F. Butter a 9-inch square baking pan.
